You will learn to recognise common cognitive distortions and practise reframing these thoughts in order to reduce emotional distress and improve coping in everyday university life.
2) Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
- Identify automatic thoughts in stressful academic situations.
- Recognise common cognitive distortions that may appear in student life (e.g., catastrophising, overgeneralising).
- Distinguish between thoughts and facts when interpreting academic situations.
- Apply a basic cognitive restructuring (reframing) technique to a common university-related situation.
- Explain how changing thinking patterns can influence emotions and behaviour.
